SCRA introduces new support material for children

The Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) has launched a new suite of information materials for children and young people attending Hearings.

These new resources aim to engage children and young people, and help them to play a greater part in the Hearings process.

The new materials include flash cards, which will be given to children attending a Hearing. The children can use these cards by raising them in the air if they want to attract attention during the Hearing, for example if they want to ask a question or take a break.

Other examples of the new materials include:

  • Your Rights card – a flyer for children and young people to take away at the end of their Hearing, giving them information on their rights, how to appeal, where to get more information etc.
  • Information leaflets for children attending a Hearing for the first time. Children up to the age of 11 will receive the leaflet in cartoon form.
  • An information DVD made by young people, which will be available at a variety of sites including the SCRA's website and YouTube.
