About Lynne

I was born in Aberdeen, attended school here and went to Aberdeen University where I obtained my law degree and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice with an early interest in Family Law. I completed my traineeship with a large Aberdeen firm and joined their court department as an assistant. I went on to work with another large Aberdeen based firm managing their Family Law department. Following a period living overseas with my family I returned to Aberdeen and worked exclusively in Family Law with a small specialist practice. I joined Balfour + Manson in 2017.

I have over 20 years’ experience in working with families in Aberdeen, assisting with the difficulties which arise from the breakup of relationships including negotiating complex financial cases and those involving children. I am committed to ensuring my clients have the best advice to enable them to minimise conflict and the potential for negative impact on any children or the wider family unit wherever possible. I am passionate about achieving the best outcome for my clients and ensuring that the interests of any children are a priority. Whilst I have extensive experience in court actions I feel that alternative dispute resolution (such as mediation and collaboration) has, more than ever, a vital role in Family Law practice.

Specialist area

I specialise in family law and advise clients on a variety of cases including divorce, separation, cohabitation, dissolution of civil partnership, pre-nuptial/post-nuptial agreements, child residence and contact, adoption and children’s hearing work. I am a trained Collaborative Practitioner and a member of Consensus Scotland.

I have extensive experience in dealing with court cases at both Sheriff court and Court of Session level. I appear regularly at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and other courts in Scotland as required.

What do our clients say about Lynne?

“I used Balfour and Manson to deal with my divorce as Lynne Mulcahy had been highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, my divorce became very difficult and complicated but Lynne and her team could not have done more to help me and their advice was always given with full honesty and understanding that there are emotions involved. I was impressed with the constant updates and very quick handling of documentation etc as well as how quickly they could respond to any questions I may have. I would recommend Balfour and Manson to anyone as they are an extremely professional organisation who have very experienced and knowledgeable people working for them. I cannot thank them enough for their help and the peace of mind it gave me at the time knowing I had such a great team of people representing me.”

"I am extremely satisfied with the advice and support I received throughout my legal proceedings. I was kept well-informed about progress and my queries were responded to promptly. All correspondence (calls, emails, meetings) were professional, friendly and helpful. I would have no hesitation in using Balfour+Manson again in the future and in recommending them to others. Thank you also to Jan and Vicky who have responded to my emails and helped in reassuring me."
