About Sophie

I am a solicitor working in the firm’s Family Law department in the Aberdeen office. I studied the Undergraduate Law Degree and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Aberdeen and began my traineeship in August 2014. I joined the Family Team at Balfour+Manson in August 2016.

I primarily deal with Child Contact, Adoption, Interdict, Cohabitation and Divorce actions. I also deal with Guardianship applications in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. I therefore regularly appear in Sheriff Courts throughout the City and Shire in a variety of different cases. The Family Team are keen to ensure clients are provided with the best possible service for their particular needs and I tailor my advice and approach to your individual circumstances. Whilst court action may sometimes be unavoidable, we hope to dispel the myth that family law matters will always end up in a difficult court case, offering alternative ways of resolving disputes such as mediation, collaboration and arbitration.

Specialist area

I specialise in Family law and am based in the Aberdeen office and work directly with Kirsten Knight, Anne McTaggart and Lynne Mulcahy. We maintain strong links with the Family Team in Edinburgh and work alongside our colleagues on a regular basis. Working within this team means that I am involved in a variety of family related matters, including child contact and residence, financial provision on divorce, cohabitation and adoption.
