A Facebook advertising campaign on domestic violence run by Shelter Scotland to coincide with the last Old Firm football match resulted in a huge surge in visits to its web site from women looking for help and advice.

According to the charity, CHILDREN 1ST, recent figures released by the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) have shown that there were 6,585 Scottish children present at domestic abuse incidents during December and January. These figures are based on the number of incidents known to the police. The actual number is likely to be a lot higher.

Man sentenced to nine years for domestic violence

A 52-year old man from Glasgow has been given a 15-year extended sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh for a campaign of domestic abuse against five women that spanned 30 years. He will spend nine years in custody, reduced from ten years to reflect his guilty plea.
