Scottish Parliament scrutinises same-sex marriage Bill

The Scottish Government introduced the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill to the Scottish Parliament on 26th June 2013.

The purpose of the Bill is to introduce same-sex marriage and also make various general changes to the law on marriage and civil partnerships.

The Bill will now be scrutinised by the Parliament’s Equal Opportunities Committee, which has issued a call for evidence in order to inform this process.

The Committee is seeking views both on the provisions set out in the Bill (such as allowing the religious and belief registration of civil partnerships, or civil partnerships changing to marriage), and on wider issues relating to the Bill such as freedom of speech.

The call for evidence will close on 23rd August 2013.
