Marriage “sliders” run a greater risk of divorce

A recent study from America has found that couples who “slide” into marriage after a period of cohabitation are more likely to get divorced than couples who make a proactive decision to make a greater relationship commitment through marriage, reports the Daily Mail.

The study apparently found that many couples begin living together without any clear long-term goals or any firm degree of commitment, and end up getting married because it seems the next logical step. These couples run a greater risk of their relationship ending in divorce.

The study also discovered that women who begin a cohabiting relationship before they get engaged are 40% more at risk of divorce than women who get engaged before moving in with their partner.

In addition, the Daily Mail reports that married couples who got engaged before they decided to cohabit apparently experience a greater level of satisfaction in their marriage.
