Love letters to combat divorce

A joint initiative has been launched by Beijing's Civil Affairs Bureau and China's post office to try and reduce the rising number of divorces in the country, reports the Telegraph.

Twice as many people are getting divorced in Beijing now than in 2004, and across China as a whole the divorce rate has more than quadrupled.

The initiative involves offering newly married couples the chance to write love letters to each other, which will not be delivered until seven years later. Authorities hope that if a couple is in danger of succumbing to the “seven year itch”, the arrival of these letters will encourage them to renew their commitment to their marriage.
