Children’s Panel looks for new members

Aberdeen Children’s Panel is holding a recruitment drive to find new volunteers to play a part in Scotland’s Children’s Hearing system.

Recent changes have meant that Scotland now has a new single national Children’s Panel, which is populated with around 2,500 volunteer panel members who regularly attend hearings to consider the cases of children facing serious problems.

Aberdeen Council describes the Children's Panel as “the cornerstone of the welfare-based system of justice for both young offenders and children who have been offended against.”

Area Convener Fiona Smith said: "Some children are vulnerable and need support. By volunteering for the Children's Panel you can help neglected, abused and troubled children to get their lives back on track.”
